Should this be a concern? :(?
So I am going to try my hardest not to make this really long. But I do need some advice and opinions on this, so I will provide as much info as I can. Okay, to begin with I am Type 1 Diabetic.. I am also 27 weeks pregnant. I keep my blood sugars under control and see a doctor for my diabetes and pregnancy along with my OB/GYN. Other than the diabetes, I have no medical problems, and none run in my family either. The diabetes came from me being very sick, not from a family member.
My unborn babies father has high blood pressure. He manages it well and takes medication to keep it under control. His dad too has high blood pressure, along with his grandpa. They all have it under control and manage it well. Well, about 20 years ago, his mom carried a baby to full term, delivered, and didn’t know about a heart defect until the baby was born. I am not sure what exactly was wrong, but he had a heart defect and died shortly after his birth. I think it was nine days after he was born. Unfortunately, he didn’t live long.
Because of the lack of technology back then, I assume that is why they never knew of the heart defect while he was still in the womb. I am scared now for my unborn baby boy, but I have some reassurance. For one, my mom who has also been a nurse for 15 years, says that if something was wrong with his heart, with all the Ultrasounds I have had, they would have been able to tell. I get scans frequently, and the doctor always says that the baby looks great.
Should I still be concerned? Because my unborn babies fathers, baby brother died shortly after birth from a heart defect? Do you think that if they saw something, they would have said something by now? Again he would be 20 so it happened a while ago.
Any help here. Any advice, opinions, helpful. Should I also mention this to my OB? Or if she was concerned, would she have said so when she viewed the ultrasounds?
