15 yrs old. List of symptoms. Wondering if theres something wrong? Always tired&sick, high liver enzymes,& more?

liz asked:

Im 15 years old. And I was wondering if there may be something wrong with me? I went to the doctors on Fri. And they took some blood to be tested. The results showed I have high liver enzymes. I dont know anything else besides that. I have another appointment May 1st, so I can be re-tested to see if I still have high liver enzymes.

Currently though, I have these symptoms:

- High liver enzymes

- High blood pressure (My school nurse took it the other day and said it was high)

- Im constantly sick. I get over something and then I get something else. I’ll have maybe one good week where Im not sick and then I go 2-3 weeks straight being sick. Usually, it consists a couple of things ranging from a sore throat, stomach ache, coughing, headache and ear aches.

- Im always tired. Im usually in bed between 7:30pm and 9:00pm. Simply because I cant stay awake any longer, even if I really want to. I get up at 6:15am and im tired from the moment I wake up to the moment I go back to sleep. On the weekends, I sometime sleep till 11 or 12am (I go to bed by 10pm) and Im STILL tired. Thats over 12 hours of sleep! And Im back in bed early the next night.

- I’ve been having a really hard time paying attention in school the past couple months. Its not just that Im tired, but im constantly zoning out. I’ll look at something and before I know it, 10 min. of class has passed by and I was zoning out yet again. I dont really even “think” when I zone out. Its just a blank stare and blank mind.

Also, about a month and a half ago I almost passed out. I was in the shower and all of a sudden I could hardly breathe. I stepped out of the shower and pretty much fell onto the floor. I sat there and felt very light headed and still could hardly breathe. After a few minutes, I managed to get up and stagger into my room which is right across the hall. I sat on my bed still having trouble breathing, for what felt like 10 minutes. It was very scary and I was about to call someone for help when finally I could breathe again. I dont know if this has anything to do with if something could be wrong with me, but I figured I’d put it here as well just in case. Especially since I’ve been getting out of breath easily lately.

High Blood Pressure Diet Guidelines

Paul J Johnson asked:

It is a well-known fact that heart diseases and excess body weight are related. Obesity, heavy alcohol consumption and lack of activity are the main factors causing high blood pressure. Too much body fat leads to an increased risk of health problems through clogging the blood vessels with cholesterol. That is why the successful treatment of high blood pressure starts with following a diet specifically aimed at reducing high blood pressure.

If you already have high blood pressure, you cannot reverse it to low permanently. Instead, you can control your high blood pressure by taking a prescribed medication and amending your diet. Research has shown that a high blood pressure diet can effectively prevent blood pressure from rising above normal.

Today, most of our meals still contain more fat than the government recommends, and most of the vending machines and fast-food options do not meet the nutritional standards set by the U.S. government. With fast-food snacks available at every corner, it’s often hard to switch to a healthy diet.

High blood pressure diets are designed to decrease sodium, increase potassium, and lessen calories. This way you will maintain a reasonable weight. This diet consists of foods that are delicious and low in fat such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products and lean proteins.

Here are some simple tips to help you follow your high blood pressure diet guidelines:

1. Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast. Eating in the morning will increase your energy and will help you avoid snacks before lunch. A quick breakfast can be as easy as a bowl of cereal, a slice of whole-wheat toast, cereal bar or fresh fruit.

2. When following your high blood pressure diet, your daily food intake must include foods from five food groups:

• Protein: Eat meats that are lower in fat, such as chicken, turkey, tuna, or low-fat luncheon meats. Make salads with a low fat meat or vegetables and light salad dressing.

• Grains: Always try eating a whole wheat version of your favorite bread, be it a loaf, a bagel or a roll.

• Vegetables: Eat tomatoes, peppers, baby carrots and other colorful vegetables as many as you like. The brighter the vegetable, the more antioxidant vitamin A it contains.

• Fruits: Fruits should be eaten fresh. Fruit has fiber and healthy calories, and you will want to eat less during the day. Juice has fructose which fills up with energy. That’s why juice should become a part of a healthy breakfast along with a cereal.

• Dairy: Try low-fat or non-fat milk, non-fat chocolate milk, and low-fat cheese. Basically, any type of cottage cheese or yogurt goes well with fruit.

If you want to avoid facing complicated and often life-threatening consequences of high blood pressure, you may want to ensure that you and your family eat healthy meals that don’t pack on the pounds and rise your cholesterol.

Emphasizing healthy food choices can help you enjoy your meals without excessive fat, sugar, and calories. Healthy food choices can be a carry-over from healthy menu and meal planning at home while managing your high blood pressure with diet.

Switching to a diet without excessive fat and salt and staying fit will help you loose weight and can help prevent or at least delay heart-related problems. Along with monitoring and medication treatment, a high blood pressure diet can help control your blood pressure and reduce your risk of stroke, kidney and heart failure and heart attack.

See your doctor before making any diet or lifestyle changes.

Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Cholesterol, And High Blood Pressure: Can They Really be Prevented, Managed or Reversed?

George Tohme asked:

They are the biggest killers in America: Diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease. The most common causes of these deadly conditions are: Physical inactivity, fattening snacks and beverages, obesity, stress, and smoking. The shocking news is that these diseases are so easily preventable.

A frequent cause of blame is the unhealthy food choices people make regularly. It’s okay to splurge once in a while, but it is the habits you follow daily that will determine your overall health. Constantly consuming chips, bacon, cakes, sugary drinks, candy, sausage, and cigarettes will get you nothing but poor health, deadly diseases, and a ticket straight to heaven prematurely.

According to the CDC over 63% (that’s over 180 million) of the US population is overweight or obese and is physically inactive, resulting in tens of millions who have chronic deadly, but preventable, conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, and pre-diabetes. Recently the CDC reported that more than 70% (over 1.7 million) of all causes of death in America are caused by only three preventable factors: obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and smoking. The very fact that these factors are easily preventable is heartbreaking.

One of the major contributors to poor health is the excessive consumption of cholesterol. The body produces over 85% of the cholesterol we need and the sugar stores in our liver and muscles remain saturated due to physical inactivity. Because we are largely a couch-potato society and the food we consume every day is loaded with animal-based fats, the extra fat gets dumped into our arteries, belly areas, and under the skin all over our bodies.

Another major contributor to deadly diseases, poor health, and premature aging and death is physical inactivity. Most of us sit throughout an entire workday then go home and sit in front of the TV for another 5 to 6 hours while consuming large fatty meals, snacks, and sugary or alcoholic beverages that are rich in saturated fats, salt, and sugar, all of which contribute to increased belly fat. Shockingly, belly fat is the most dangerous kind because it causes inflammation in the arteries contributing to plaque build up in the arteries and insulin resistance leading to heart attacks and diabetes.

Yet another common issue is that people are unaware of how unhealthy the foods they consume are. When people don’t read nutrition labels they tend to consume very dense food and sugary beverages that are nutrient deficient. These foods are readily available in fast food restaurants and vending machines and contain loads of sugar, fat, and unwanted calories. Sugary soft drinks (which alone contribute to over 33% of all US obesity), sugary lemonade, sweetened iced tea, smoothies, lattes, and frappucinos, which contain loads of sugar and fat that further contribute to the accumulation of belly fat, make you more of a magnet to all sorts of deadly, but preventable, diseases. One of the worst mistakes people make as well is skipping meals which makes the body more efficient at storing and gaining fat weight.

Fortunately there are important steps to help you make balanced food and activity choices and help you start a lifestyle makeover process which will be your shield against deadly diseases as you age gracefully:

• If you have any chronic disease(s) take your medications as prescribed.

• Eat 3 main balanced meals, reduce your portion sizes, and raise your fiber intake.

• Consume 2 fruit and nuts snacks between meals.

• Switch all sugary drinks to water or diet soft drinks. Sweeten all other hot or cold beverages with artificial sweeteners or sugar-free flavoring powders. Limit all non-water beverages to a couple a day.

• Increase your daily walking activity to over 10,000 steps a day by making more frequent trips at home, the office, while shopping, and anywhere else.

The good news is that diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic diseases can be prevented, managed, and reversed with your own choices, actions and a lifestyle makeover. Now is the time to start putting these tips to good use and begin feeling better and living healthier right away!

How Can I Prevent Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) ?

Cristina Chase asked:

Before we look at ways to prevent hypertension (High Blood Pressure) we need to understand what hypertension is.

What is Hypertension ( High Blood Pressure) ?

Hypertension is a condition which arises when blood is putting a higher than normal pressure on the arteries which in turn puts more stress on the body. Your heart has to work harder now to get the blood pumped through those arteries, causing your heart to enlarge which over time damages it and leads to heart attacks, stroke, aneurysm and other heart related illnesses.

A normal blood pressure level is below 120/80. Blood pressure between 120/80 and 139/89 is called prehypertension and a blood pressure level of 140/90 or above is what is considered hypertension. Hypertension is categorized as either essential or secondary.

Essential Hypertension is a term that is used when the cause of high blood pressure is unknown.

Secondary Hypertension is a term used when the cause of high blood pressure is known such as a direct result of kidney disease or birth control pills.

Over 90% of High Blood Pressure Sufferers including minors have Essential Hypertension.

How Can I Prevent Hypertension? How can I manage stress?

There are many things which you can do to prevent high blood pressure, amongst them being a healthy diet, losing weight if you are overweight, limiting your alcohol intake and exercising. Managing Stress is what we are going to look at into more detail in this article. It is important to  keep yourself on the healthy path once you have successfully managed to bring down your blood pressure and controlling stress is a sure way of achieving this.

One of the best ways to prevent hypertension is to control stress. All of us have stress in our daily lives, it is something that we cannot prevent but it is something that we can manage and control. There are hundreds of studies done that accurately show that lowering our stress levels will keep our blood pressure low. One method of doing that is through exercise – because not only does it strengthen your heart, it has the dual effect of reducing your stress levels.

Begin an exercise routine today and stick to it daily, whether this is a 25-30 minute walk, or bicycle ride or even running. Another helpful technique to control stress and thus preventing hypertension is through YOGA or Tai Chi. All of these concentrate on proper breathing combined with mild muscle exercising which can help us relax and distress our bodies.

Any chance you get to play with your kids or chasing your pet around your backyard – it all helps relieve stress from our bodies. Did you know that generally pet owners have a low blood pressure? That’s because pets have a magical way to help lower your blood pressure – even the act of petting an animal can help lower your blood pressure.

The main thing for you to find is a productive method that manages your stress levels. If you bottle up stress it will lead to serious illnesses such as heart attacks and other related heart problems. Find a way to relieve stress today, whether it is through a daily exercise routine, a hobby (gardening, painting, reading etc), talking and sharing your troubles with a close friend, a family member or your therapist, whatever method works for you and you will noticeably see the positive effects it has on your blood pressure in the space of just a few weeks.

Frustrated with my inability to maintain high blood pressure at 28 weeks. I am taking medicine Alphadopa daily

Aquagal asked:

and also not taking much of salt. But when i went to my doc for regular checkup yesterday i had really high BP. It was 140/100! i was reading a novel some days ago,may be lack of sleep. But its really frustrating. She increased my medicine dose, asked me to avoid excessive salt, relax, have low fat diet but I wasnt really having any high fat/salt diet earlier. Yes I use to eat out once a week. What else I can do?? I really want to be healthy and have a healthy baby. I lost my first kid and dont want to take any chances this time.
I have no swelling in my feet or face. Neither do i have any problem or symptom of high BP. Yet it puts me off when I am unable to manage it. Anyone facing same situation?? I am very much in touch with my doc and she is very optimistic I will be OK if I take her medicines and have a C-section after 38 weeks.

MY QUESTION: Did anyone of you had high BP even after taking blood pressure medicine Alphadopa in pregnancy? Was the baby fine absolutely?

eppagala asked:

DALLAS, Texas (Achieve 3000, February 15, 2007) The American Heart Association is concerned about the health of many Americans. The group thinks that people are spending too much time sitting and not enough time exercising. That is why it is offering a new fitness program called Start! The goal of the free web-based program is that “Americans will live longer, more heart-healthy lives.”

“I think we all know that as a nation, we are not active enough,” said Dr. Raymond J. Gibbons, president of the heart association.

Start! places special emphasis on walking. Dr. Gibbons calls walking “the easiest activity for most people.”

Start! tells us that walking for even 30 minutes a day provides many benefits. It reduces the risk of heart disease and keeps weight under control. It improves cholesterol levels and manages high blood pressure. It also boosts energy levels and increases muscle strength.

Walking also provides many benefits for the mind. It helps people to worry less and sleep be
