High blood pressure and gestational diabetes?
December 24th, 2009 | by admin |I asked about this earlier today and only got one response. I’m hoping that’s just because I asked too early and that this time I get more responses!
Did any of you have both? If so, how did you manage it? I haven’t been diagnosed with either yet, but I have a feeling I will be eventually. I developed high blood pressure part way through my second pregnancy and was diagnosed as borderline gestational diabetes. My blood pressure never regulated after that (five years now) and I’m fairly certain the GD will be an issue this time as well. I’m just trying to get an idea of what I’ll be told to do to manage these serious issues!
Thanks!

Yes, they often come is 2’s. Basically, diet change and exercise. Limit salt, sugar, and caffeine. Avoid fatty foods, fried foods, etc. Stick to water, lots of fruits and veggies, whole wheats only (pasta, bread, rice), but keep track of carbs, lean meats only (leanest beef, skinless chicken breasts, turkey), low fat or fat free dairy, etc. Avoid cookies, crackers, and cake. Watching the salt is the hardest part. This causes you to ditch most toppings or dressings. Stick with fresh fruits and veggies and lean meats. Yogurt, cheese, etc. Try not to add salt. Check salt levels in salad dressings, frozen foods are going to be OUT, even cereals can be loaded with salt, diet drinks loaded with salt, etc.
