How often should I do cardio and muscle toning workouts for maximum weight loss?
January 24th, 2012 | by admin |Harmless Curiosity asked:
I work out 6-7 days a week. One workout option for me is the Abs Diet 2 DVD (cardio interval training). The other workout is a 45 minute workout by Jackie Warner called Total Body Power Circuit (muscle toning). So, if I plan on working out 7 days a week, how many of those days should be cardio, and how many should be muscle toning. Also, why are both cardio and muscle toning necessary? Thanks!

Cardio burns fat…but once you lose the fat do you want to be soft and shapeless under your skin, or have toned/firm muscles that look nice AND the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism (which means you burn more calories even at rest)…
You’ve got tons of workout options if you include free videos online (see youtube) and buying more workout programs, not to mention walking, jogging around your neighborhood…personally, I like a LOT of options or I get bored…
You can do your cardio as frequently as you like, but mix it up…when you do the same workout/same duration over and over your body gets used to it and you may plateau…switch up your workouts at least every 30 days…strength training guidelines typically say don’t work the same muscle group 2 days in a row…so you can do muscle work daily as long as you aren’t working the same muscles you worked the day before…or you can just do your muscle work every other day regardless of what muscles you worked…

Very good question. It varies from body to body. Most people do 30min to about 1hr cardiovascular Exercises everyone other day. The remainder days of the week they would devote it to resistance and muscle toning. the reason why it is recommended to do this is because cardio is really good at burning body fat but it doesn’t do a good job for maintaining and strengthening muscle tissue because when your body is hyperactive, your body will have the tendency to “through out the garbage” meaning getting ride of body fat and other toxins inside the body. But on the other hand it is the opposite for muscle toning. muscle toning only good for strengthening and maintaining muscle but does very little good for burning fat.

If you’re honestly going to work out 7 days a week.
do two days of carido followed by one day of toning, and repeat. If you do too much toning you run the risk of getting too bulky, the cardio will help you lose weight and the toning will help you shape it up in the places you’re working on. If you lose too much weight without toning then you also run of risk of getting flabby skin, the toning will make sure that doesn’t happen. But without the cardio you will just turn all the fat into muscle and end up looking like china doll (unless that’s what your going for). GOOD LUCK!
